Burning rubber and squealing tires made for a noisy kickoff to the fifth annual Imagine RIT: Innovation and Creativity Festival. This year, RIT president Bill Destler challenged the RIT community to create an all-electric vehicle and compete in the E-Dragster Race for a chance to win a banjo from his collection or $1000.
13 teams of students, faculty and staff – including President Destler – raced against the clock for the best 100-meter time. It was the Hot Wheelz vehicle, designed and built by WE@RIT, that achieved first place with a time of just six seconds. Hot Wheelz reached 58 miles per hour- proving that electric vehicles are a force to be reckoned with.
Hear what some of the winning team members had to say around 1:20 in this clip.
Also like WE@RIT on Facebook to see tons of behind-the-scenes photos of the Hot Wheelz vehicle.
We hope to have more photos of the E-Dragster Race as well as the rest of the festival on our Flickr page later this week.
