Imagine RIT Update

The Imagine RIT: Innovation and Creativity Festival Program Committee makes its first call for proposals today. In prior years the call has occurred in the fall, but going into our fourth festival we felt the campus could wait until the New Year to submit. The proposal submission deadline for exhibitors wanting to be considered for spot in Gordon Field House is Thursday, February 3, 2011 and the print program deadline is Thursday, March 10, 2011.

We are running two student contests this year. First, the Imagine RIT Poster contest which began in 2008 with the inaugural Imagine RIT Festival. Not only does the winning student get a $500 gift card to Barnes & Noble, they also have the honor of seeing their poster all around RIT and the community. We give away 5,000 copies to local schools, non-profit organizations and even pass them out the day of the event. An image of the winning poster also becomes the image for the Imagine RIT Facebook page for the year. All the rules are available here: http://www.rit.edu/imagine/contests-poster.html

Here is a look at the winning posters from prior years.

The second contest is new this year. If you didn’t know, music is a big part of the Imagine RIT. We set up anywhere from two to four stages on campus and various RIT musical groups perform. Many of RIT’s a cappella groups perform each year and this year we would like to highlight their talents at the Opening Ceremony. We are asking RIT’s a cappella groups to write and record an original song that captures the spirit of Imagine RIT: Innovation & Creativity Festival. The winning group will get to perform their song at the Opening Ceremony, have a video clip of their group performing the song featured on the Imagine RIT web site and social media sites leading up to the Festival. More details on the contest are available here: http://www.rit.edu/imagine/contests-acappella.html
