Dr. Destler’s E-Vehicle Autocross

Dr. Destler’s E-Vehicle Autocross

Each year of the festival, President Bill Destler issues a special challenge to the RIT community.

In 2008 and 2009, he gave us the Green Vehicle Challenge in which ten custom-built vehicles completed a three-mile course around campus with a goal of expending the least amount of energy.

In 2011 and 2012, we focused on all-electric vehicles.  First, there was an e-drag race where spectators were excited to watch vehicles on a 100 meter track at speeds upwards of 50 mph.  Then we slowed things down with a one-hour endurance race, but in order to maintain the fun, vehicles had to be modified children’s ride on toys (PowerWheels).

Each contest has involved a 1st prize offering of either $1000 or an antique banjo from Dr. Destler’s personal collection.

So what’s in store for May 3, 2014?  Check out rit.edu/imagine to find out!
