Cascade – Music at your Finger Tips!

Each Tuesday between now and Imagine RIT on Saturday, May 3, 2014, we will share exclusive festival highlights.
Cascade makes musical expression simple and exciting for visitors of all ages. This exhibit was designed and developed by students in the New Media Design and Development programs, in collaboration with a student from the Eastman School of Music and an industrial design student at RIT. The team was inspired by the wavelike properties of water, which helped them to develop their concept.
Don’t have any prior knowledge of music? No problem! Cascade seeks to help visitors express themselves in a unique way—by allowing them to make music without already understanding music theory. Visitors can use interactive touch surfaces to manipulate the audio and onscreen visuals. These surfaces were created using acrylic flushed with infrared light and integrated flowing water to reduce friction. Using gestures such as tapping and pressing, you can create a myriad of notes that combine into your own personal song!
Be sure to stop by this exhibit to experiment with sound and enjoy the stunning visual displays.
Exhibitors: Tyler Stegall, Christopher Blackman, Andrew Gucwa, Matthew Kinbaum, Kelly Meegan, Katharine Read, Tyler Sposato, Marc Laroussini, Megan Kushner and Jan Dvorak
